In a recent report by renowned Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Neymar expressed his desire to return to Barcelona, stating, “As I get older, I reflect on my past, and one of my worst mistakes was leaving Barcelona. I really want a return back to Camp Nou.” According to Spanish sources, the former Barcelona and Brazilian superstar has announced his wish to make a sensational comeback to the club. Romano’s report indicates that Neymar holds regular discussions with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who has confirmed the player’s desire to return to Camp Nou next summer. Therefore, Neymar is keen on a Barcelona transfer following talks with Laporta.

Neymar is reportedly eager to orchestrate a dramatic comeback to Barcelona, according to sources in Spain.

Despite currently playing for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, the Brazilian star has been sidelined since October due to a significant knee injury suffered during international duty. However, this setback hasn’t dampened the 32-year-old’s desire to return to Barcelona, the club he departed in 2017 for a record-breaking €222 million fee to join PSG.

Insights from Bar Canaletes suggest that Neymar maintains regular communication with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, further fueling his longing for a potential return to Camp Nou in the future.

However, any prospective transfer for Neymar is unlikely to materialize until the summer of 2025, coinciding with the expiration of his contract with Al-Hilal. At that point, there is speculation that he could reunite with Erling Haaland, as Laporta has initiated discussions with the Manchester City striker, eyeing him as a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski in spearheading Barcelona’s attack.

However, Neymar’s potential return to Barcelona is not without its challenges. From a financial standpoint, it poses a significant hurdle, depending on the salary expectations of the forward.

Having grown accustomed to lucrative contracts during his time at PSG and Al-Hilal, it remains uncertain whether Neymar would be willing to accept a substantial reduction in wages to facilitate his move to Barcelona. If he were open to such adjustments, the possibility of his return becomes more feasible.

Moreover, concerns persist regarding Neymar’s fitness. Since departing for PSG, he has suffered at least one major injury each season, casting doubt on his ability to recover from his latest, and most severe, setback. Despite accumulating 178 club appearances since leaving Barcelona, his seven-year absence from Camp Nou equates to an average of only 25 games per season.

Nonetheless, the potential return of Neymar to Barcelona holds a certain allure for Laporta, appealing to the spectacle associated with the club’s president.
