“I wanted to sign Haaland, Nkunku, and Luiz Diaz, but he was the only player I signed before I left the club. He called me yesterday that he will finally make his debut today. He is a great player, and everyone will see how good he is today.” – Ralf Rangnick’s sole signing for Manchester United could potentially make his debut today against Luton Town after being seen in training, where his teammates reportedly refer to him as a “monster.”

Ralf Rangnick’s only signing for Manchester United may finally make his highly anticipated debut against Luton this Sunday, as he was seen participating in first-team training.
During his brief tenure as interim manager between 2021 and 2022, Rangnick had just one transfer window to influence United’s squad. He reportedly proposed the signings of six players, including Christopher Nkunku, Luis Diaz, and Erling Haaland, in discussions with the club’s hierarchy.
However, United chose to support the incoming manager, ultimately appointing Erik ten Hag the following summer, and refrained from securing any of Rangnick’s suggested targets.
The solitary addition made under Rangnick’s stewardship was Toby Collyer, a promising defensive midfielder, who arrived from Brighton in March. Initially enlisted for United’s U21 setup, the 18-year-old trained with the senior squad ahead of their Europa League encounter against Barcelona last February.
While Toby Collyer is adept at playing as a center-back, he has predominantly featured for the U21s this season, amassing seven appearances and contributing an assist. Despite still awaiting his debut with the senior team under Erik ten Hag, Collyer has once again been called up to first-team training ahead of Manchester United’s crucial Premier League clash with Luton.
This inclusion hints at the possibility of his involvement in the matchday squad. The presence of young forward Ethan Williams alongside Collyer underscores United’s dedication to nurturing talent and bolstering squad depth through youth development initiatives.
Given midfield availability concerns for Ten Hag, with Mason Mount sidelined due to injury and Sofyan Amrabat recently returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Collyer’s potential inclusion may be seen as a strategic move. The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo this season exemplifies United’s commitment to providing opportunities for young talents to showcase their abilities, and Collyer stands poised to follow suit at Kenilworth Road.
