Rio Ferdinand expresses his admiration for Manchester United’s latest January addition, expressing disbelief at the successful acquisition, saying, “I’m amazed that we’ve managed to secure him.”
Rio Ferdinand believes that Omar Berrada’s acquisition will be Manchester United’s most crucial signing this month, having successfully recruited the highly-regarded executive from rivals Manchester City.
At 46 years old, Berrada will take on the role of the club’s new chief executive officer, a move considered a significant accomplishment for United. This appointment comes in the wake of Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.25 billion deal for a minority stake in the club with the Glazer family.
Expressing his admiration for the recruitment of Berrada, Ferdinand labeled him as United’s “best January signing” during a discussion on FIVE. According to Ferdinand, those associated with Manchester City are surprised that United managed to secure Berrada.
“They believe he has made noteworthy contributions to the game at different levels, achieving success, and view this as a shrewd and commendable addition for us.
Considering the current circumstances, I believe this could potentially be ranked among our top January signings. Currently, Berrada stands as the sole addition for United since the January transfer window began.
The uncertainty looms over whether Erik ten Hag can reinforce his squad before the February 1 deadline.
While the Dutchman desires reinforcements, particularly in the attacking department, it seems more probable that he will reshape the squad during the summer transfer window, aligning with the full establishment of Ratcliffe and Ineos.”
Ten Hag acknowledged last month that the chances of significant signings in January were low.
In an interview with United We Stand, when asked about potential transfer activity, he remarked, “I don’t think so — and if so, United’s approach should be that if you can enhance your team, then you should do so.
Our expectation from every player coming to Carrington every day is for them to give their maximum, to give their best. As a club, you have to seek improvements, so if you can find better and it’s financially realistic and complies with financial fair play, I believe the club should pursue it.”
“Realistically, in terms of the market, most of the time, you don’t attract the best players in the winter. The top-tier players typically do not leave their clubs during the winter. It’s usually players who are dissatisfied, injured, or not the right fit, or for various other reasons.”
